Membership

Shepherd the flock of God that is among you...
(1 Peter 5:2)

We believe that membership is essential to the health and vitality of the local church. But what do we mean by membership? When the Bible talks about us being members of Christ’s Church, it uses two metaphors: the family and the body. The Bible’s vision of the local church is one of radical commitment and sacrificial love. In membership, we commit to remain, to serve, and to love one another with all that we are and all that we have, constantly looking for ways to use our time, treasure, and talents to serve one another in love.

Membership is also vital for our elders to know who exactly God has called us to shepherd and oversee. 1 Peter 5:2 calls us to shepherd the flock that is among us, and Hebrews 13:17 tells us that we will give account for the flock God has entrusted to us. Membership helps us clarify who has placed themselves under the leadership of our elders.

Our membership process includes 4 primary steps:

  1. Attend a Start Here Membership Class. Scroll down to sign up for the next class!
  2. Meet with one of our elders in order that you might be known and prayed for.
  3. Sign the Membership Commitment, which is your “yes” to our church.
  4. After these three steps are complete, the elders at CBC will meet and pray for you and confirm your membership with you. This is our “yes” to you.

We have 3 Start Here Classes per year. Occasionally, we will have people who cannot attend any of them because of scheduling concerns but still want to become members. If that is the case, please fill out a connect card, and we will try to work with you.

Commitments, covenants, and vows are an important part of the Christian life. They move things beyond our intentions and provide space for trust and accountability to grow. We believe that a formal commitment to a local church is important for every believer in order to place themselves under the spiritual authority of a local church.
